Back in the day when everything was normal and India wasn't hit by the Coronavirus pandemic, we used to have at least three to four Akshay Kumar releases in a year. Well, it was a bit surprising at first, but fans eventually got used to it and poured in all their love for Khiladi Kumar. It goes without saying that if not critically, all his films were a hit when it came to box-office or, at times, the vice versa. The current scenario, however, doesn't allow the stars to even shoot for their films, forget releasing them. And while 2020, for the Indian film industry and the Bollywood stars, has turned out to be dud financially; something similar is the case of Akshay Kumar, who has a lineup of not one or two, but seven releases as his upcoming. Here's the list.
Sooryavanshi
This Rohit Shetty cop drama was among one of the most awaited films of 2020 and was to release in March; however, the Coronavirus outbreak commenced during that time and the lockdown got extended, resulting into the film's postponement. It also stars Katrina Kaif in the lead, while Ranveer Singh and Ajay Devgn in special appearances.
Bachchan Pandey
Bachchan Pandey reunites Akshay Kumar with Kriti Sanon, Sajid Nadiadwala and Farhad Samji after delivering a super-hit like Housefull 4. The makers were keen on going on a recce for its locations in March-end; however, it was during the same time that the lockdown was announced.
Prithviraj
A YRF period drama, which marks Manushi Chhillar's debut on the big screen, was slated to release during Diwali 2020 and had gone on floors only recently. However, 80 percent of its shooting is yet to be completed, which makes it difficult to see a release as planned.
Atrangi Re
Atrangi Re, an unusual love story, was announced earlier this year. The film also stars Sara Ali Khan and Dhanush with Akshay in the lead roles and is going to be helmed by Aanand L Rai. It was to go on floors during March but, sigh.
Bell Bottom
Bell Bottom is a spy thriller that is going to be inspired by true events. The film was to release by the end of this year with Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha; however, Kumar postponed it to next year. And now that the film hasn't gone on floors, it looks unlikely that it will release in January.
Laxmmi Bomb
Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani's Laxmmi Bomb, horror-comedy, was to clash with Salman Khan's Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai during Eid this year but, the rest, as they say, is history. Rumours are rife that Laxmmi Bomb will release on OTT instead of the big screen; however, there's no official confirmation so far.
Ekta Kapoor's untitled action-comedy
This yet-to-be-titled film is reportedly a remake of a Telugu hit film. And since Kumar's calendar was blocked until November, he had allotted dates from December. As a consequence of the lockdown, the film is expected to delay by at least six months.
